At home in the middle of the Tyrolean Alps, we are of course drawn to the mountains even more at this time of year at the weekend. There we can pursue our favourite winter sports and enjoy the dreamlike snow-covered landscape. Besides skiing, we are also big fans of snowboarding, ski touring and tobogganing. The beautiful slopes offer you space for many mountain sports of your choice. We present the most beautiful ski resorts and huts around our home in Tyrol.

Breakfast first – because for a high-performance day, we need the right nutrients in our sports nutrition. With a balanced breakfast rich in protein and fibre, you can pursue your favourite sport for hours. So nothing stands in the way of a wonderful day on the mountain!
Our favourite ski resorts around Tyrol
You don't really need much for a day on the mountain. In addition to the right equipment and a nutritious breakfast, there are plenty of other tips for winter sports, including warming up and breathing properly while winter sports.
Whether for locals or your skiing holiday in Austria, here are three of our favourite ski resorts, practically on our doorstep:
Kitzbühel – Kirchberg
The dreamy ski resort of Kitzbühel extends over seven communities and two federal states and offers over 50 lifts on over 200 kilometres of slopes. Kitzbühel is not least known for the legendary Hahnenkamm downhill run. The ski resort also offers over 60 great huts and skiing fun for the whole family, in addition to other events.
You can explore the fantastic slopes and excellent gastronomy until the beginning of May. Those who want to cover a few more kilometres of slopes can, for example, continue from Kirchberg to Saalbach or to the Wilder Kaiser in Brixental.
Saalbach Hinterglemm
A little further on, in the neighbouring province of Salzburg, is the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn. It is one of the largest connected ski resorts. 270 kilometres of slopes, 70 lifts and 60 huts invite you to linger and enjoy sports. The varied ski resort offers something for everyone, slopes of various difficulty levels for beginners to professionals, snow parks, fun slopes and much more.
Hochkönig – Saalfelden
The ski resort, with around 120 kilometres of slopes, connects the towns of Maria Alm, Dienten and Mühlbach and is perfect for a day trip. Other winter sports can also be enjoyed here, for example, the idyllic village of Maria Alm offers the most cross-country ski trails in the region.
The best huts for a bite to eat
Stopping for lunch at a cosy alpine hut is an integral part of mountain sports. But how about a delicious breakfast with a fantastic view of the slopes and mountains? From rustic to modern, there is a hut to suit every taste. Among our favourite huts in the Tyrol are the Tom Almhütte on the Hochkönig, the Mama Thresl and the Hendl Fischerei in Saalfelden and the PlatzlAlm in the Hochzillertal.
Tom Almhütte
This cool mountain hut is located on the Hochkönig and can be reached via the Natrunbahn from Maria Alm. It combines modern architecture with rustic hut charm. Every room is furnished with great attention to detail and cool touches, such as chairlift chairs as bar stools.
In addition to the beautiful mountain panorama, you can enjoy the delicious, ‘brutally regional’ alpine brunch here every day. Particular attention is paid to buying regional products here. Selected Verival products can also be found at Tom's brunch.
Mama Thresl & the Hendl Fischerei
An absolute highlight can be found in beautiful Leogang. Mama Thresl and her team spoil visitors with culinary delicacies, a relaxed atmosphere and cool events. It is the perfect place to start a skiing holiday in the beautiful Saalbach Hinterglemm ski region. With the motto ‘urban soul meets the alps’, they create an exciting blend of tradition and modernity and show how contemporary hospitality in the Alps can do without conventions and clichés.
And don't miss the breathtaking view from the Hendl-Fischerei. This stylish ski hut, located right at the Asitz mountain station, delights visitors with cool events, the finest delicacies and DJ sounds. When the sun comes out, the glass roof and walls of the hut are simply retracted, so that you can enjoy and admire the beautiful weather and the fantastic mountain scenery even more.
Platzlalm
The beautiful PlatzlAlm is located at an altitude of 1790 m in the Hochzillertal. An inviting hut with rustic furniture, traditional Tyrolean cosiness, a contemporary feel and modern comforts await you. The magnificent sun terrace invites you to feast and relax with spectacular views. A hearty breakfast buffet with a Verival muesli corner and freshly roasted coffee ensures the best start to your day of skiing.
Are you starting your skiing holiday or weekend in a rented hut at the foot of a mountain? For a relaxed start to the day, you can start your day with a warm porridge, for example, which will give you enough energy and keep you full until you stop for a bite to eat!
