The trend to resort less and less to cow's milk while using plant-based milk alternatives is becoming increasingly popular.
We believe that plant-based milk can easily be integrated into breakfast and represents a further step towards sustainability.
Whether in porridge , cereal or with granola, delicious plant-based drinks pair beautifully with everything. In this blog post, we will introduce you to four recipes for your own plant-based drinks, which you can easily and quickly prepare at home.
Here’s what you'll need to prepare all four plant-based drinks:
- A blender
-
A fine sieve or a nut milk bag
4 good reasons to make your own plant-based drink:
- Sustainable. By preparing your plant-based drink at home, you can easily save on packaging waste from purchased milk or plant-based milk. It is especially environmentally friendly if you buy ingredients, such as the nuts ( cashew , hazelnuts ) in bulk, for instance, at an unpackaged store.
- Individual. You can customize the milk exactly to your taste and decide how sweet you want it to be. With the pomace, the leftovers from the production of the milk, you can also easily make delicious recipes and refine your dishes.
- Always at your fingertips. Since you need a maximum of 4 ingredients to make your own plant-based milk, it’s quick to prepare. You likely always have the ingredients at home, meaning you can make your own vegan milk on a Sunday, holiday, or late in the evening.

Quick.
For most homemade plant-based drinks, you won’t need more than 20 minutes. So, you can see it is not at all time-consuming to make your own plant milk.

4 delicious recipes for your homemade plant-based drinks:
1. Oat milk
You can easily and quickly prepare your own oat milk in just 20 minutes. Soak 100g of oatmeal in water for about 15 minutes. The oat flakes should be placed in your blender along with a date, a pinch of salt, and about 1 litre of water. If you like, you can add some more vanilla flavoring to turn your oat milk into a vanilla variant. Blend the ingredients in the blender for about 1 minute.
Finally, take a strainer and a bowl and strain the oat milk through the strainer, so all lumps are filtered out and the clear oat milk is collected in the bowl. You can enjoy your
favorite cereal
and porridge with
your own oat milk.
In a study by the European Food Safety Authority – EFSA, it is noted that “Oats have been shown to lower blood cholesterol levels with beta-glucan. Lowering blood cholesterol can reduce the risk of (coronary) heart disease.”

2.
Hazelnut milk
Another vegan milk alternative is the delicious hazelnut milk. To prepare this, soak about 100g of hazelnuts in water overnight. After the hazelnuts are nice and soft, drain the water.
Combine the hazelnuts with a sweetening agent of your choice (you can use dates, agave syrup, or date syrup, for example) and 1 litre of water in the blender. Blend the ingredients well until they become a smooth milk. Finally, strain the hazelnut milk through a sieve or alternatively use a nut milk bag to remove small pieces from your milk.

3.
Almond milk
For your homemade almond milk, we even have two different recipes for you to try! The first can be prepared particularly quickly. 😊
1. Variation
The first homemade almond milk variation can be prepared quickly without soaking the nuts. You need 3 tablespoons of almond butter (you can use either white or brown almond butter), two dates, one liter of water, and some agave syrup. Add all the ingredients to your blender and blend well until the milk is nice and creamy. Finally, strain the almond milk through a sieve to filter out the small residues from the milk.
2. Variation
For the second variant, soak 200g
of
almonds
in a bowl of warm water. Leave the covered almonds overnight. The next day, drain the water. Then, add the almonds to your blender with about twice as much water and some sweetener. After that, strain the almond milk briefly so that it no longer contains any pieces. The best way to do this is to use a nut milk bag through which you squeeze the nut milk over a bowl. In winter, you can also easily refine the almond milk with cinnamon.

4.
Cashew milk
For the last plant-based milk alternative, you'll need 100g
of
cashews
and 3 cups of water to soak the cashews. Once the cashews are soft, mix them with 2-4 cups of water, two dates, and a pinch of salt. You can also use a sieve or a nut milk bag for the cashew milk.

Two final tips for your plant milk:
Just keep using the leftovers:
The pomace, or the residues remaining after straining or in the nut milk bag, can easily be reused. You can add the leftovers to your cereal, use them as a spread, or incorporate them into cake batter.
A pinch of salt:
To make your own plant milk last longer, always add a pinch of salt when blending. 😉
