Is breakfast really that healthy?
When it comes to the most important meal of the day, breakfast is often spoken of in these terms. But what is really behind it? To be honest with you: quite a lot! If you go out without the right fuel, you will quickly get tired. That's why it's always important to top up your reserves in the morning and start the day full of energy and strength.
During the night, you use up 50% of your basal metabolic rate calories while sleeping – that's why your body needs new energy quickly. If you skip breakfast or eat an unhealthy breakfast, your body lowers your basal metabolic rate. This often leads to problems – especially when it comes to losing weight.
Carbohydrates give you energy for the whole day
What's more, you should get 50-60% of your daily carbohydrate intake from breakfast alone. This way, you can be sure that your reserves are full and you get a good start to your day. Good, healthy fats are just as important as protein.
Scientists definitely agree: breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Even more so for children and adolescents than for adults. Studies have shown that people who eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight, less likely to develop diabetes and less likely to suffer from clogged arteries.
A hot breakfast is the key to success
You're on the right track to good health if you not only eat breakfast, but a hot breakfast. A warm breakfast in the morning really gets your body going. We're not the only ones who know this: traditional Chinese medicine has been preaching this for years.
The reason a warm breakfast is so healthy is that your body can absorb it more easily. It doesn't need any extra energy to bring the food up to body temperature. This means it gets into the bloodstream faster, giving you the energy you need in the morning.

4 tips for your healthy breakfast
To sum up, there are a few tips that we would like to share with you for a healthy breakfast.
1. Don't forget about (good) carbohydrates
Carbohydrates are important – we have known that for a long time. So don't skip them at breakfast! They will keep you full for a long time and give you the energy you need.
2. Take your time with your healthy breakfast!
Even though it's often difficult to do just that, it's important not to stress. If you're rushed out of bed, you won't get a good start to the day. So it's better to get up a little earlier or, for example, reach for some overnight oats.
3. Drink, drink, drink
Drinking lots of fluids is healthy! We often talk about fiber – it is important for healthy digestion. However, fiber swells in your stomach and you need plenty of fluids for that. At least 2 liters of fluids are a minimum. Therefore: drink a lot, preferably water!
4. Warm food is good for you!
And our top rule at the very end: a warm breakfast is really very good for you. Your body will thank you for it!
