In recent years, more and more breakfast and food trends have emerged. Many of these trends have not been able to catch on and quickly disappeared. However, one trend that has already caught on and is very popular is the smoothie bowl trend.
They are extremely healthy and delicious, easy to make and usually extremely fresh! And those are just the hard facts. So if you've had enough of bread and eggs as a healthy breakfast, want to do something good for the environment and are looking for a healthier option, today's blog post is perfect for you.
Smoothie bowls? What exactly are they?
You should already be familiar with a number of pictures of the most diverse smoothie bowls. Everyone has seen the colourful bowls in their Instagram feed by now. But what exactly are smoothie bowls?
Are smoothie bowls simply smoothies in a bowl? No, it's not quite that simple, although it ultimately comes down to that. The trendy name has been given because the dish is consumed from a bowl. The smoothie bowl is particularly popular for breakfast. It is almost a smoothie – but the base is usually oat porridge or chia seeds mixed with water, juice or milk and fruit.
What is special about the smoothie bowl is that one of the basic ingredients is best frozen before processing. This makes your bowl particularly creamy! Because for many people, a ‘normal’ smoothie just isn't enough to keep them full.

Creamy and liquid – and really healthy too!
The body often does not feel full after drinking it. This is also just an illusion, but you can easily remedy the situation by simply spooning the smoothie – at least that's the basic idea.
Adding chia seeds or oat flakes gives the smoothie exactly the right consistency – creamy, flaky and delicious. But the addition of seeds and oats isn't just great for the consistency. Mixing in the ingredients just mentioned is also extremely healthy! This is especially important at breakfast time. Starting the day healthy is the best way to start the day. So a healthy breakfast really is the basis for a healthy body.
Oats and chia seeds as a base – the extra healthy kick!
Oats are increasingly becoming THE regional superfood. Oats are not only extremely tasty but also incredibly healthy due to their high fibre and vitamin content! Oats help to prevent cardiovascular diseases and diabetes. They also contain a lot of iron, so you no longer need meat. 😉
The seeds of the chia plant are also really healthy for you. They contain unsaturated fatty acids – for a long time, these were thought to make you fat, but this misconception has long since been refuted. Saturated fatty acids are extremely important for the body, and vegetable fatty acids in particular play a major role here. They lower your cholesterol level, support blood supply, boost brain power and have an anti-inflammatory effect.
It's all about the toppings
Now that we've established that seeds or oats are the creamy base (together with fruit and vegetables – ideally frozen, so you can enjoy your breakfast extra creamy) for your smoothie bowl, we still need to talk about the second centrepiece. It's the toppings that make your bowl a real eye-catcher.
What toppings can you use now? Actually, there is no limit to your imagination here. Our recommendation is all-encompassing. For example, you can use extra fresh fruit, but be careful not to use too much fruit, because too much fructose is not necessarily healthy either.
All types of nuts are always a highlight. Cashews, for example. They contain lots of good fats and vitamins that you can benefit from greatly. Grated coconut or seeds are always a good idea too. For that extra tasty push, we recommend a few flavours: vanilla, cocoa, honey. As I said, there really are no limits here. If it tastes good, then it tastes good!
