The classic porridge, prepared on the stove, is by far the best-known variety. This breakfast is particularly popular because it is prepared warm and is therefore easier to digest. In addition, porridge is rich in complex carbohydrates and will keep you full for a long time. However, there are many other ways to prepare porridge. Meanwhile, there are also some variations of the classic porridge such as Proats – here we make the healthy breakfast particularly high in protein by using protein powder or other protein sources, such as peanut butter and quark.

Pudding oats are another variation of the delicious porridge. Here, pudding powder is added when the porridge is boiled and then stirred into the porridge. This gives the meal a pudding-like consistency and makes it wonderfully creamy.
3. Overnight oats – healthy breakfasts made overnight
Overnight oats are a very simple and practical option. With this option, the oats or your porridge base soak up liquid overnight in the fridge. This way, your healthy breakfast practically makes itself overnight, and you can even sleep a little longer. In the morning, you can then simply spice up your breakfast with various toppings such as nuts, seeds or fresh fruit.

Which porridge type are you? Find out here
1. The classic type
The classic porridge, as traditionally prepared in Scotland, the country of origin, consists of only three ingredients. Namely, oat flakes, a little liquid such as milk or water and a pinch of salt. If you like it classic, we can highly recommend this basic recipe for porridge:
If you're in a hurry, then Verival Classic Porridge is the right choice. It takes just three minutes to prepare in a kettle or microwave.
But you can also prepare overnight oats quickly and easily. Simply put 50g of oats and 120ml of water or milk in a jar and leave it in the fridge overnight. We also recommend adding a tablespoon of chia seeds and 60ml of additional liquid. This gives you extra important fibre and keeps you full for a long time. The next day, your breakfast will be ready all by itself. You can then refine it with the toppings of your choice.
2. The savoury type
Porridge is not only available in a sweet version, but can also be prepared as a savoury dish. This is particularly suitable if you like to eat porridge in the evening. You can prepare your porridge with egg and avocado, for example, or with a delicious vegetable combination such as tomatoes, spinach and mushrooms. At Verival, we also have two savoury porridge mixes in our range for a quick lunch or dinner: pumpkin and tomato porridge and broccoli porridge.
Zoats are also perfect for a slightly heartier porridge. Although the combination of courgette and porridge may sound a bit strange, it is really delicious and will keep you full for a very long time. Just try it and see for yourself!
3. The sporty type
If you like to start the day with some exercise and are very active, you should make sure that your porridge also provides you with the necessary energy and proteins. Then Proats with the extra portion of protein are exactly the right choice for you. Simply mix some quark and peanut butter into your ready-made porridge.
